The first thing to do is to carefully measure the length of string lights you need and the length of support wires you'll need to span the open space. When measuring the string lights, always consider enough length to connect to an electrical outlet. For the support wires, make sure to order enough length to allow for loops at each fixing point (about 12 inches extra per span is enough). Accurate measurements like these ensure that you order just the right amount of material, with neither too little nor too much left over. At the same time, accurate measurements can also help you better plan the layout during installation, making the entire decorating process smoother.

Begin the installation by installing the screw hooks at the fixing points you selected. Make sure to attach the hooks to a solid structure, such as the eaves of a house, a thick tree trunk, or other sturdy support.
Many people hang string lights in a zigzag pattern across an open space; if you do this, plan to design each "zigzag" or "zigzag" as a single cable connected to a screw hook at each end (cables can "share" a single screw hook).
After installing the screw hooks, you can start hanging the support wires. Fix one end of the support wire to the screw hook on one side of the span, then pull the wire to the other end and secure it. Use the wire clamp to adjust the tightness of the support wire, making sure it is tight enough to support the weight of the light string, but also leave some room to cope with the expansion and contraction caused by temperature changes.
Now it’s time for the excitement! Start hanging your decorative lights along the support wires. Use cable ties or special string clips to secure the lights to the support wires, making sure the strings are evenly spaced. If you are using heavier strings, you may need to secure them at regular intervals to prevent the strings from sagging.
Connect the string to the power source and temporarily power it on to check if all the bulbs are working properly. If using multiple strings, make sure they are securely and correctly connected together. Finally, stand back and observe the overall effect and adjust any parts that look uneven or loose.
Choose outdoor decorative lights with the right waterproof rating to ensure they can withstand all weather conditions.
Consider using a timer or smart socket to easily control when the lights turn on and off.
Arrange the light strings at different heights and angles to create a sense of layering and depth.
Combine decorative lights with other garden decorative elements, such as potted plants, garden furniture, etc., to create a coordinated overall atmosphere.
